This restaurant truly delivered what I consider to be one of the best Bun Bo Hue bowls I've ever had in my life (coming from a household with Hue grandparents). The broth was very rich, spicy, and balanced the umami of the beef with the lemongrass herb blend. Mien Trung has surpassed any BBH restaurant I've had in Texas and prices are amazingly fair for such large portions. On top of high quality food, the owners were very kind and attentive. The restaurant was clean and had open seating available for all. While we waited for BBH, I got the hến xào ớt with Bánh tráng as an appetizer. Again, the spice hit the right spot. I will definitely come back and may even consider getting an entire pot of BBH if I say in SD longer. An authentic experience you cannot miss out if you're looking for Viet food in the area.

My wife and I have been on a mission to find central region vietnamese food. Mien Trung was recommended to us by a few friends so we were finally up in the area to try it out. We ordered Bun Bo Hue, Bun Rieu, and Banh bot loc. All them really hit the spot. The BBH is a little more lemon grassy than what some people might be used to but we enjoyed that extra level of flavor. The banh bot loc was flavor and perfectly chewy. We have already been back 3x and will make this a regular in our rotation. It is a smaller mom and pop shop. They were welcoming and helpful servers.

This was my first time trying bun bo hue. I did like the flavor of the broth, and loved adding the lettuce into the soup. However, what I didn't love about it was that there was a smell to the meat. And while I'm no stranger to pork trotters, I would have preferred an option with just beef. The price is another plus. It was only $12.10 for a small bowl and $13 to upgrade to a large. Overall, it was a decent meal, but I don't see myself craving it.

**CASH ONLY** I've always passed by this place... its' aged look had a draw to me. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking, I didn't have any issues really. Seating: Inside seating for maybe about 20 people. Feels: It's in the outter ends of Linda Vista and Convoy, close to the freeway and pretty much across the street of a HS and community college. The spot itself is nothing flashy, just a grit and grind shop with pride of their culture and food. Great place to treat your family, lowkey food adventure or if you're into catering dishes. FOOD: Bun Bo Hue (Recommend) Beef noodles, originating from Hue. It is different from pho with its thick noodles, choices/slices of meat, but still has the comforting elements of spicy, sour, umami, and essence of Southeast Asian flavors from lemongrass. A pretty fulfilling dish and soothing. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly people, quick with our orders TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Excellent. Good food, fair prices, and a pleasant experience overall. I did find it interesting they didn't have pho but this was a nice way to encourage others to explore beyond your standard Vietnamese dishes. Till next time! TIPS: *If you didn't read the top, reminder that it's cash only.

Authentic Vietnamese food cravings fulfilled. I shared the Bun Bo Hue, Banh Bot Loc La, and Banh Nam La on my most recent visit. Service was quick and friendly. Keep in mind that the place is cash only. The banh nam la was comforting. I've learned that everyone is very particular about how they like their bun bo hue. For me, the broth was too sweet and the chili was not spicy enough. I did not love the cha lua in the bun bo hue, but all the other meats were cooked nicely. My favorite item was the banh bot loc. It had a nice filling to tapioca ratio and the tapioca had the right bite to it.

A true go to for all family gatherings. I always think of them when I need a giant meal to serve hungry family members. First off, we love their BBH, who doesn't. We usually bring a giant stock pot or two and ask them to fill them up with pork blood and hocks. Extra $ but totally worth it. We also ask them to give us the noodle and veggies so we can be extra lazy. Also an extra $20 but again, TOTALLY worth it bc they are SUPER generous. I was worried we wouldn't have enough noodle but there was a literal bag full. We had also ordered their small tray of chicken wings and lemme tell ya those were on point! CRISPY, fish saucy, so so good! The kids munched them up. the BBH usually ranged around $80-120 to serve like 8-10 ppl but honestly I find that we had leftovers. The wings were $60? This most recent time, we decided to get their Bun Rieu which we don't usually get and it was a hit! My MIL doesn't like spicy food anymore so we got this cuz the BBH gets so spicy (especially after you let it marinate a few days). We loved that they put tofu, tomatoes and crab-sage in there. I actually can't wait to get this again. I think this was around $85 with noodles and veggies and served 6 people with plenty of leftovers. I don't think it's necessary but generally I call ahead (either morning of or day before) and let them know how many servings I want. This ensures that I can get what I want. Next time I want to order their other stuff too! I'm addicted to this business they are so nice too!

*Cash Only Mien Trung brings me back to growing up in Socal and going to Westminster and Garden Grove with my family for Vietnamese food. Most places would have very extensive menus, but were really only "known" or cooked a specific dish really well. This is very common and exactly how Mien Trung is. I knew that I was going to get the Bun Bo Hue and those that come here should probably do the same (even though I wanted to also try their Bun Cha Ca and Bun Rieu lol). The staff were very friendly and could understand my pigeon-level of Vietnamese-speaking. The waiter even asked if I wanted the Pork Blood with my Bun Bo Hue which was a subtle but really appreciated question because I don't eat that and he probably knew that too lmao. The BBH was super flavorful and great! The broth is a lot more clear and lighter than others I've had, but the flavor was absolutely there. My gf also got the Bun Cha Gio without the pork and she really enjoyed it. Personally I didn't think the cha gio was very good but then again, I was here to rate the BBH and it hit all the marks.

*CASH ONLY* My friend was taking me to the airport and since we had time to kill, we decided to grab dinner right before my flight. I found this restaurant for us to try as they had a variety of rice vermicelli noodle (bún) soups! It's located I got a small Bun Rieu, and loved it! It was quite good but unlike the other ones I've tried, it didn't have much of a "deep" crab and pork flavor. Regardless, the taste was really good! For a small, it doesn't look that big (peep pic) but it was super filling. I loved how it had a TON of toppings, including pig's blood, which I don't usually see on bun rieu dishes. My friend got their small Bun Bo Hue. I tried the broth, and it had a very earthy, herby which I didn't like and care much of. I do want to come back next time to try their Banh Beo and Banh Khot! We haven't found a place in San Diego that has banh beo besides here. My friend and I couldn't try it this time around but will definitely be back for them!

Visited SD for the weekend and this was my first stop. Got the large bun bo hue and it was still as good as I remember it. Haven't been able to find a place that's better no matter how many places I've tried in LA and the OC. They give a lot of meat, broth is heavy on the lemongrass, and the spicy leaves my mouth a little numb. Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in SD.

Small restaurant but have a lot of food options on the menu. We are here for their Bun Bo Hue. We ordered egg rolls, Bun Beo (steamed rice cakes), and Bun Bo Hue. Food came out fairly quick. Bun Bo Hue was very flavorful with a bit of spicy kick. It came with pork blood, slices of beef shank, Cha Lua, and a side plate of toppings. Egg rolls had the right amount of veggies and meat portion in it. Came out piping hot and served with a bed of lettuce and dipping sauce. Steamed Rice cake is different from other places but it tasted good. Overall, all the food was good, the price was decent, and service was excellent. Would come back and try other things if we are in the area.
